We had a great showing this past Saturday at the 28th Annual Run 4 Red 5K race. Each year our chapter organizes the event to raise money for disaster relief efforts across Georgia. We were thankful to have representatives from Zaxby’s participating in the event. Bell’s Food Stores and local coffee shops were also generous enough to donate a post-race meal.
This year’s 5K brought in 111 runners/walkers with seven states represented! Eric Stabb from Athens scorched the course with his overall first place win. The top female winner was Julie Gayer, crossing the line with an impressive 9th place finish.
Our overall winners represented the “40 and up” age group quite nicely, proving that age is truly only a number:
Female OVERALL Winner: Julie Gayer with a time of 23:40.7
Male OVERALL Winner: Eric Stabb with a time of 15:54.9
Female MASTERS Winner: Melinda Black with a time of 24:29.1
Male MASTERS Winner: Richard Kraus with a time of 20:08.9
While the majority of runners fit into the “25 and up” category, a number of younger participants showed times on par with the seasoned runners. One such participant was Jackson Krueger, an 8-year-old from Dacula with an astounding 4th place overall finish.
With the help of wonderful volunteers from our chapter and the UGA Red Cross, the Run 4 Red brought the East Georgia community together. If you had the opportunity to come out to the event, we hope you had great time supporting Red Cross efforts!
