The University of Georgia’s Red Cross Strives for a Monumental Blood Drive

Since the beginning of the year, more than 200 Red Cross blood drives have been cancelled due to severe winter weather, resulting in a shortage of nearly 7,000 blood and platelet donations. The University of Georgia’s Red Cross Club hopes to combat this deficiency by hosting the largest blood drive in northeast Georgia’s history.

On Wednesday, January 22, UGA’s Red Cross is partnering with UGA Miracle, a student-run philanthropic organization that raises money and awareness for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, to host a blood drive in Memorial Hall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The organizations are aiming to collect at least 300 units of blood. If this goal is reached, the blood drive will be largest ever held in the region and will potentially save up to 900 lives.

The American Red Cross needs your support during this time of need. To participate in the blood drive, go to Memorial Hall (101 Sanford Drive, Athens, GA 30602) or email to make an appointment to donate blood. Please remember to bring photo identification.
