The American Red Cross is supporting rescue operations in Colorado by providing shelter, food and comfort to thousands of people forced out of there homes by flash flooding. As many as 1,000 people stayed in Red Cross shelters Sunday night, where the Red Cross and the Southern Baptist Convention have served more than 7,100 meals and snacks.
More than 250 trained disaster workers are staffing shelters and evacuation centers and the Red Cross has mobilized more than 20 response vehicles and six truck loads of relief supplies. The American Red Cross is now working with the National Guard to ensure that people get the help and supplies they need. As flooded areas begin to re-open, the Red Cross will be there to assess the damage, distribute clean up supplies and support a recovery effort that will take weeks and months. We’re already planning for that effort now.
