Join Us in Celebrating the Life of Red Cross Volunteer Nathan James Terpin

By: Sammy Slappey

This month the East Georgia Red Cross celebrates the life of Nathan James Terpin, a beloved volunteer whose life was taken far too soon ina one-vehicle wreck in Oconee County.

An 18-year-old from Watkinsville, Nathan served the Red Cross as a first aid volunteer during University of Georgia home football games. His eagerness to help others made Nathan the youngest first aid volunteer, responsible for the small yet crucial task of pushing wheelchairs around the stadium. His cheerful attitude and willingness to help made Nathan a memorable and valuable part of the Red Cross family.

In addition to helping with the Red Cross, Nathan was an active member of the Prince Avenue Baptist Church, where he helped work sound equipment during services. Nathan was also responsible for the sound equipment at Oconee County High School, from which he graduated in May.

In honor of Nathan’s contributions to the Athens community, the East Georgia Red Cross will be hosting a wheelchair fund, in which donations will be accepted to buy new wheelchairs to be used by the Red Cross. Each wheelchair purchased will have a plaque engraved in Nathan’s honor. This way, Nathan can continue to give to the Red Cross for many years to come.
