The American Red Cross has mobilized full resources of the organization across the country to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. So far, more than 6,000 Red Cross workers from all 50 states are providing shelters, food and water for fixed sites and neighborhoods. About 90 percent of those workers are volunteers.
So far, we have served more than 3.3 million meals and snacks, provided more than 29,600 health services and emotional support contacts, handed out more than 124,000 relief items, and provided more than 63,000 shelter stays. In some areas, volunteers are battling up to six inches of snow.
The East Georgia Red Cross is proud to have 11 volunteers assisting with Sandy relief: Bene Hunter, Shari Snell, David Vaughn, Albert Van Helden, Laura Gutsmann, Ron Lemke, Carol Lemke, Skip Matson, Betty Matson, Bob Coker, Kathy Coker and Paul Brown.
On behalf of the East Georgia Red Cross, we thank those who have donated both their time and money to the Sandy relief effort. To donate, please visit http://www.redcross.org/charitable-donations or text REDCROSS to 90999.
